San Tan Piano Club
A Program that Solves the Practice Problem and Speeds Progress
The Infamous Practice Problem
I taught traditional piano lessons for many years. Kids’ lessons are typically 30 minutes. The lessons include going over the previous week’s assignment and then introducing new music. The student must learn the new music at home, so they typically need 30 minutes of daily practice. At home, they sometimes learn the music wrong and must redo it the following week. Sometimes they get stuck and can’t proceed. Or, they just don’t want to practice. All of this leads to slow progress and great frustration for both the student and parents.

The Solution
Students in San Tan Piano Club learn their music at their lesson, not at home. In addition, they get 60 minutes, allowing them to complete their music with me. At home, they simply play through their new songs, already completed. No more frustration. Parents and students LOVE this program!

Learning Feels Easy
This method also breaks down concepts into manageable elements. For example, traditional piano teachers typically introduce quarter notes by giving a lecture on fractions. But I simply tell students, “Give these one count.” Students will learn the theory behind it along the way. Meanwhile, they are playing music.

Faster Progress
Students naturally progress faster through their books. There is no more confusion at home or need to redo their music the following week. Kids love passing off songs and advancing to new books.

Other Benefits:

-
Better sight-reading. This important skill helps students learn music quickly.
-
Independent learners. Students are taught how to practice, how to self-direct their learning, and how to self-evaluate their playing.
-
Social. While all lessons are one-on-one, the setup and lesson format offer opportunities to meet other students and make friends.
